New Battle of Selma Historical Markers Unveiled in Selma

From the West Alabama Newsroom– The first in a new series of historical markers in honor of the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Selma — is unveiled Wednesday morning in Selma.
The April 1865 Society plans to erect ten Battle of Selma historic markers — to promote the 150th anniversary of the historic battle — and the city’s rich Civil War history.
Chairman James Hammonds says the project has been three years in the making.
“And it will create a trail that a tourist could come in and pick up a brochure and travel around to all the points that will tell a different story at different points in the town about what happened in the town during the battle,” said Hammonds.
Hammonds says the group is working to have all ten markers in place by the annual Battle of Selma Re-enactment next spring.
The new marker is located at One Sattlefield Street in Selma — right in front of Riverside Park where the battle re-enactments are held.
