Israel Crisis Hits Home For Maxwell Airman

Lt. Col. Hadida is a member of the Israeli Military and works as part of its Air Defense Force.

The group has had a lot of work lately, mainly with the Iron Dome, a missile defense system that shoots down rockets in midair.

“It is strange to be here while everything goes on at home, while this war is going on back home.”

Hadida has been in the military for over 20 years. He’s currently training at Maxwell Air Force Base. He says the missile defense system he works with has a tremendous impact on those in Israel.

“Safe feeling it gives to the citizen of Israel. They know that they have this iron dome that protects them. We are being shot, there were more than a thousand missiles shot at our civilians. There were hardly any casualties.”

But casualties continue to mount on the Palestinian side, particularly civilians. Hadida says it’s not something that he takes lightly.

“Their offensive strategy is using their schools, their hospitals, their houses to shoot at our schools, our hospital, our citizen. That’s their offensive strategy. We defend our people.”

He says that includes defending the Palestinian civilians as well.

“Before we attack a neighborhood, before we attack a house, we throw leaflets above this house asking the civilians to move away. In case someone didn’t hear about it, we throw a small bomb on the roof that only makes noise, it doesn’t cause casualties. Only then do we attack the building. After all we’ve done, we make sure there are no civilians in the buildings.”
