Back-to-School Tax-Free Weekend August 1-3

It’s time for back to school shopping, and the good news is this weekend it is all tax free.

This is the 9th year for the sales tax holiday weekend in Alabama.
According to the Alabama Retail Association, while the state does lose out on getting the sales tax over these weekends, it’s not all bad for the state.
In fact, we’re told shoppers tend to buy more things that aren’t on the tax-free list along with their tax free items.

“The state has seen increased sales in the month of August since the sales tax holiday has been enacted. And tax sales. We’ve seen an increase in tax sales. We’ve averaged about a 2.3 percent increase in tax sales,” said Dennis.

The sales tax holiday starts at 12:01 am Friday and goes through Sunday.
