26 Convicted in Elmore County Gang Crime Crackdown

Federal prosecutors say 26 people have been convicted in a crackdown on drug dealing, gun violence and other violent crime in Elmore County’s Crenshaw Village neighborhood.
U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama George Beck Jr. said in a statement Monday that the arrests and convictions were the result of an investigation by the Central Alabama Drug Task Force, the FBI and several other local, state and federal agencies.
Investigators learned a gang was operating an open-air drug market in Crenshaw Village and executed several armed home invasions and store robberies. The gang was also linked to large-scale local, regional and international drug dealers. Prosecutors say the large-scale drug suppliers were targeted in a separate operation.
Sentences for those who were convicted range from probation to life in prison.
