Veterans Express Claim Wait Time Frustrations At Town Hall

The Department of Veterans Affairs’ has been in the headlines for months.

But controversy goes beyond medical care. Veterans are also upset about delays in getting benefits.

More than 50 veterans got a chance to speak out to the Montgomery VA regional office at a town hall. The main frustrations by veterans were about benefit claim wait times.

The Montgomery office says they’ve made improvements, dropping the amount of backlogged cases by 60 percent in the past year.

But some veterans are skeptical on how much progress is actually being made.

Ret. US Marines CWO-6 Eddie Barnes said, “I’ve seen these speeches over and over again, they sound good the public, but the most important thing is action and results. Until you get action and you do results you are not doing anything.”

Also at the town hall vets were able to meet with claim counselors individually to address specific case questions.

There will be a town hall held specifically for healthcare concerns.

That’s going to be held on September 23.
