Non-Profit Makes Donation To Replace Stolen Flags

Driving down Highway 231 in Troy it’s hard to miss the hundreds of flags on display for their 9/11 remembrance.
Bust as Alabama News Network exclusively reported, the flags were being stolen.
Since our story in July, the non-profit Woodmen of the World donated 50 new flags.
The flags may look like just patriotic decoration, but each symbolizes much more. They represent the approximately 400 deceased veterans from Pike County. Each holiday that they were on display, close to a dozen would be stolen.
Wanda Vinson, VP American Legion, Auxiliary Unit 70 said, “Woodmen’s of the world viewed your last editorial on this it just, they opened up their hearts and it showed me that people still care…it meant a lot to the legionnaires the auxiliaries it meant a lot to Pike County citizens our men and women on this wall have not been forgotten and are still remembered.”
The new flags will fly at ceremonies once renovations at the Bicentennial Park are complete.
Plans are in the works to add things like new walkways to make this park even more accessible for the community.
