Selma City Leaders Consider Multi-Million Dollar Infrastructure Project

From the West Alabama Newsroom– Selma city leaders are considering a multi-million dollar infrastructure project that would help address some of the worst of the city’s on-going sewer problems.
Mayor George Evans says several areas in immediate need of major sewer repair work have been identified around the city.
He says a project to replace old clay piping in those areas with new PVC piping would cost about 4-million dollars.
Evans says a plan that would require the city to take out a loan to pay for the project is under consideration by the city council.
“It is something that’s needed in our city that’s not going to get any better if we don’t do something about it,” he said.
There are some concerns being raised about the city taking on too much debt.
It would cost the city about 5 million dollars to pay back the loan.
