Alabama Power Warns Customers About Scams
Alabama Power is warning customers to be on the lookout for a new kind of scam.
The company says scammers are sending text messages saying a payment is due right away.
The text message lists the name of a bill payment company and a reference number to use in paying the bill.
Company officials say the  reference number could belong to anyone and once the money is transferred it is almost impossible to trace.
Last year, some of Alabama Power’s customers got phone calls from scammers about fake bills asking for personal financial information from customers. Â
