Crenshaw Co. Animal Clinic To Release Stray Animals

Some South Alabama Residents could see more stray animals in the streets at the end of the month. That’s because one animal hospital can no longer keep them, unless county commissioners act quickly.
Some residents of Crenshaw County were hoping Animal Clinic Dr. Alethea Gammage would keep stray animals until 2015… But that all changed when Dr. Gammage sent this letter to County Commissioners.
Dr. Alethea Gammage runs the Crenshaw County Animal Clinic, but for decades she’s also kept strays until they’re adopted. Now she says its just too much.
There’s no animal shelter in Crenshaw County, So the county pays for the strays to stay in the clinic for seven days, but Dr. Gammage usually keeps them longer. Which is causing issues for the clinic.
Vice Chairman of the Crenshaw County Commission Merill Sport says if Dr. Gammage releases the strays it will cause problems for the county
“Its gonna cost the county additional revenue because we may have to get someone outside the county and outside the city to handle these things for us until we can find a solution.” Says Sport.
Thats where The Crenshaw County Animal Society comes in. The new organization is proposing to bring an animal shelter to Crenshaw county, but so far no luck
I also asked Dr. Gammage if asked by commissioners would she keep the strays for an extra amount of time. She said its very doubtful at the moment
