Community Comes Out for Ovarian Cancer Research Benefit in Memory of Montgomery Native

Elliot Patterson Williams was a 36 year old mother of two young children when her life was  cut short by ovarian cancer two years ago.

“It happened to be one of the rarest cancers that had ever been recorded here in the state of Alabama. But she got the very best medical care but unfortunately cancer actually just really destroyed her after a period of time,” said Elliot’s dad, Ed Patterson.

Her parents have founded Elliot’s Light LLC in her memory…. in hopes of helping to save other lives.

Valisia LeKae “life had to have meaning so as a  little girl I realized I was born for greatness.”

The benefit keynote speaker, Valisia LeKae, is a Tony and Grammy nominee Broadway star and ovarian cancer survivor.
Lekae was diagnosed last year with the illness and is now the national spokesperson for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition helping to bring awareness to this lesser known cause.

“You don’t hear a lot about ovarian cancer or other GYN cancers, but ovarian cancer is the 4th leading cause of death due to cancer in women. A really important cancer to know about. Couple things women should know about, is there a family history of breast and ovarian cancer?” said UAB professor of Gynocology Dr. Ronald Alvarez.

The Pattersons hope  their daughter’s light she brought into the world will continue to shine, bringing love and hope to those around them,

“We hope to one day have a cure or at least an early detector. That’s why we are here, to raise  money for research,” said Patterson.
