Selma Leaders Plan and Prepare for 50th Anniversary of Historic March

From the West Alabama Newsroom– Preparation for the 50th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery March next year has been going on for months. Now some of the plans to commemorate the event are beginning to come into focus.
Selma city officials and community and business leaders are working to make the golden anniversary of the historic march — a once in a life-time event.
Work crews are freshening up the striping — crosswalks — and stop bars around town.
Officials are in talks to have grammy award winning recording artist Ce-Ce Winans perform at the celebration.
“All of those things are a work in progress, has not been finalized,” said Selma Mayor George Evans. “Its on her calendar and its on ours, so we just got to finalize it with the sponsorship in terms of funding these programs.”
