Jury selection is under way in Lee County for the capital murder trial of a man charged with killing two former Auburn University football players and another man.

Potential jurors reported Monday for the trial of 24-year-old Desmonte Leonard.

Attorneys will screen about 95 possible jurors as a group initially. Then they’ll break down the full group into smaller panels.

Circuit Judge Jacob A. Walker III says jury selection could be finished by Thursday or Friday. He’s also got to consider motions on evidence so it’s unclear when opening arguments might be held.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Leonard.

Former Auburn football players Ladarious Phillips and Ed Christian were killed, plus DeMario Pitts of Opelika. Three more people were wounded.
