Teen Shot To Death After Party At Community Center

Police in the east Alabama town of Phenix City are investigating the killing of a 17-year-old boy shot moments after a party let out at a community center.

Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr. said that Tyrelle Kynard, a Central High School senior, was pronounced dead at the scene around 12:30 a.m. Sunday. The coroner said he had been shot in the head.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports (http://bit.ly/1qZNdx9) that a memorial, which included flowers and stuffed animals, was set up Sunday near the site.

Phenix City Police Chief Ray Smith said officers responded to a call around 11:30 p.m. about shots being fired behind the Central Activity Center. He said police had no known motive and investigators were searching for witnesses.

An autopsy is planned for Monday.
