Alabama World Affairs Council Talks About U.S.-Iran Relations

Amid the U.S. air strikes in Syria, the Alabama World Affairs Council had a special guest to talk about some of the issues that are facing the Middle East.
A member of the National Iranian American Council spoke to a group at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts.
He says the U.S. partnering with Arab countries is essential to the mission’s success.
Although U.S. and Iran relations have not been very smooth over the years, he says its important to be able work together.
“It’s safe to say the U.S. and Iran are not going to be friends anytime soon. But also safe to say that our interests both tactically and strategically overlap at often times, not just in Syria, but also sometimes in Afghanistan, sometimes in Iraq. So when our interests overlap, can we work together? So far the answer has been no, but because the entire region is on fire, it’s forcing politicians both in Iran and the United States to sharpen their focus and make some really tough choices to try to find peaceful solutions,” said Reza Marashi.
Tuesday night’s program was one of a seven part series of events the Alabama World Affairs Council is holding. Each one is open to the public.
