Bates Turkey Farm Prepares For Thanksgiving

Bates Turkey Farm is starting to prepare their turkeys for one of the busiest holidays of the year. The Bates family is preparing four-thousand turkeys for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Â
The female birds weigh about 15 pounds. The males, 24 pounds. The Farm feeds the Turkeys soybeans, oak, wheat, and corn everyday. Bates says it’s really busy for the farm now because of the high demand for their turkeys. They take special orders from their customers at the Bates Turkey restaurant in Greenville as well as grocery stores in Birmingham and Mobile. Bates says business has always been strong every year… but that changed during the recession. But customers came back stronger than ever, in fact these turkeys will also end up on the dinner tables of homes across the county.
Some of the turkey’s lives may be spared before Thanksgiving, that’s because Bates Turkey has a special tradition that they do with the Governor every year, where one of these turkeys gets pardoned.
