Charges Filed Against Teen in Selma Vigil Shooting

SELMA, Ala. (AP) – Authorities say a teen has been charged with assault for firing gunshots during a vigil for a woman who died in a car crash.
The Selma Times-Journal reported Tuesday that the teen is being held on $500,000 bond in the Dallas County Jail.
Sheriff’s officials say the teen was at a vigil for 19-year-old Jamira Barley, who died Sept. 19 when her car hit a deer, veered from the road and hit several trees.
Investigators say the teen fired shots into the air during the vigil and shot a man in his ankle when a group wrestled him to the ground to try taking the gun.
The wounded man suffered minor injuries and was treated at the Vaughn Regional Medical Center.
