Troy Soccer Set to Host First Night Game

TROY, Alabama – The Troy University soccer team will welcome Sun Belt Conference foe UL Lafayette on Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff; it will be the team’s first-ever night game at the Troy Soccer Complex. The Trojans will also host ULM on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Â
Â
Troy (8-3, 0-1 Sun Belt) enters the game looking to rebound after suffering a 2-1 defeat to South Alabama a week ago to open conference play. The loss snapped the team’s program-best eight-game winning streak.
Â
In the match, South Alabama took advantage of a pair of early goals before the Trojans got on the board in the second half on a free-kick goal from Georgia Wallis, the first of her career.
Â
Junior Chelsey Williams has been held goalless over the last two matches and remains two goals shy of 23 in her career, which would tie Jill Pinder for the most in Troy history. Williams is also three points from tying Mary Morris’ school record of 53 career points.
Â
Junior Alissa Jones ranks second nationally with five game-winning goals. She also stands in the top-30 in the NCAA in total points (14th, 20), total goals (17th, 8), points per game (21st, 1.82), and goals per game (29th, .727). Mikki Lewis is one win away from collecting her ninth win; the most wins by a freshman goalkeeper in Troy history.
Â
UL Lafayette (5-5-1, 0-2) comes into Friday’s game after dropping 2-1 decisions to Georgia State and Georgia Southern. The Ragin’ Cajuns and Troy have one common opponent; both teams fell to Louisiana Tech during non-conference play. ULL has several offensive threats this season with 17 players, including eight freshmen, recording points through the first 11 matches.
Â
ULM (7-4-1, 1-1) was knocked off by Georgia Southern, 3-1, on Friday before rebounding for a 2-1 win over Georgia State on Sunday. Sophomore Jenna Pillon leads the team offensively with seven goals on the season.
Â
The Trojans hold a 5-3-1 all-time advantage over UL Lafayette including a 5-0-1 mark in the last six meetings. The lone tie in the series occurred last season as the teams battled to a 0-0 tie in Lafayette. Troy owns a 6-3-0 series mark against ULM and have won six straight from the Warhawks.
Â
The Trojans are 5-0 at home this season.
