Wilcox County Jailer Jailed on Drug Charges

From the West Alabama Newsroom–   A Wilcox County correctional officer finds himself in a jail cell — after allegedly being caught trying to take drugs into the Prince Arnold Detention Center in Camden.

Richard Bender of Arlington is charged with the unlawful possession of a controlled substance — and the unlawful possession of marijuana first.

District Attorney Michael Jackson says Bender had brought marijuana and an assortment of pills to the jail.

“And for him to do that, that’s a total violation of the public trust and the sheriff’s trust in him,” said Jackson.

Jackson says the 4th Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force made the arrest in coordination with the Wilcox County Sheriff’s Office.

“We’re going to keep cleaning up the jail and other places, any time, no matter who you are.”

He says Bender is being held in the Clarke County Jail on $100,000 dollars bond.
