Author and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson was in Montgomery tonight. He was the guest speaker at Faulkner University’s annual benefit dinner.

Dr. Ben Carson arrived on Faulkner University’s campus in Montgomery to a crowd of supporters. He spoke to an invite-only group, talking about his upbringing and shedding light on his personal views.

“I think our founders would turn over in their graves if they could see what was going on in this country right now,” he said. “They just would not be able to believe.”

Students were able to ask Carson questions and no topic was off limits. He answered questions about student loan debt, education, healthcare, religion and the economy.

“I think the only way to break the cycle is we have to fix the economy,” he says of abortion. “Which I think can be done easily, to be honest with you, by reforming the tax code and getting rid of unnecessary and burdensome regulations. Getting rid of Obamacare and getting rid of the things that absolutely put all types of fetters on the businesses, not allowing them to expand.”

Students thought the candid question and answer session went great.

“I think a lot of us were siitting down for a while surfing the internet trying to find a good question,” says Student Government Association Vice President Andre Wright.

After visiting the school’s campus, Carson entertained hundreds of people at the Renaissance Center, speaking to guests about politics and views. Ticket sales from the event go toward scholarships for students.

“I think it’s a good thing for Faulkner,” says student Nicholas Deveaux. “I just hope that we continue to bring more famous people here so that people can know about our school who dont know about it.”

Carson has not said if he plans to run for president in 2016 though there were many supporters at both Faulkner and the Renaissance center campaigning for him to do so with posters and tshirts.
