There’s a new organization in Montgomery that’s motivating parents to get involved with their child’s education.
It’s called Second Mile Development, and it’s already showing promise in one local school.

Second Mile Development is a Christian community organization based out of Huntsville.
They take at-risk schools and show parents how to get involved in the school and make a difference in their child’s life.
Garrett Elementary in Montgomery is trying it out.
The organization holds parent parties each month for a fun way to motivate parents to become more involved.

“Through the organization we are better able to define what parental involvement is and so are the parents. So I think it’s a joint effort in us being more knowledgeable and confident in what parental involvement really is,” said Garrett principal Anissha Officer.

The parent parties are in 48 states across the country.
During the parties there is a meal for the parents. Also, students from other schools are available to help Garrett students with their homework there.
