Montgomery County recent crimes has residents on high alert

A rash of crime has residents on high alert. Authorities are now investigating dozens of car burglaries and a violent home invasion.
Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputies are trying to solve two cases. They’ve both taken place around the same area in Montgomery County and now investigators hope maybe you can help them catch suspects.
Residents who live in Montgomery County’s Woodland Creek neighborhood say the area is mostly peaceful and safe.
“I see police cars all the time that know me, know my daughters, say hello,” says resident Carrie Rice. “So, it’s wonderful. Not to mention people are running, active all the time.”
So when residents heard about a rash of car burglaries, they’re ears perked up.
“I was just really shocked because I’ve always felt safe out here,” says resident Linda Weeks. “So I was surprised that we’ve had that many problems with people breaking in cars.”
Montgomery County Sheriff D.T. Marshall says more than 22 cars were burglarized on Monday.
“They’ll go in that car and steal anything from change that you have in your cup holder, to guns to computers.”
Marshall says there are leads and he expects the suspects to be arrested soon. But he tells us he does need help finding the suspect involved in a home invasion that happened just minutes away…in the 2000 block of Ray Thorington Road. The victim, a 79 year old woman, was attacked after she opened the door for a man who was wearing a hat that said police on it.
“He pulled a gun on her, got in her safe, took what he could from her and shut her up in a closet,” Marshall says. “This is after he hit her in the head with a gun.”
The suspect is a white male in his 50s, about 6 feet tall and 220 pounds. He was driving a white and blue work truck. Sheriff’s deputies chased him throughout the county at speeds upwards of 96 mph, as seen in dash cam video. But deputies lost him after he drove into a wooded area. The suspect is still on the run.
