Charter School Movement Meets in Montgomery

The fight for charter schools in Alabama is again gaining momentum.
Â
A group gathered Tuesday night to let their voices be heard at a town hall meeting.  Â
Charter school legislation has not gotten very much support in Alabama. And was voted down in the legislature in the past couple of years.
But a non-profit group wants to change that. The “Black Alliance for Educational Options” says it would help give low income families options.Â
“We don’t have any leaders who are fighting the fight every day to get our kids the best quality education to save our communities. I feel education is the only way to do that. It’s the only way to break this generational poverty that we suffer from in our communities,” said BAEO State Director, Duncan Kirkwood.
Alabama is one of eight states that does not have a charter law.
