Taking Action Agains Crime: Unsolved Murders, Earmon Pickett And Oscar Waugh

Alabama News Network is Taking Action Against Crime by investigating unsolved murders. Tonight, we bring you the last of a four-part series in hopes of generating new leads to solve these cold cases. We’re looking into a double-murder and robbery in Montgomery County.
The District Attorney calls it two of the most gruesome murders he’s ever investigated — and family members want to know who killed them.
Except for the sounds of mother nature, this Montgomery County home is now quiet. Nothing’s left, but the belongings of two friends who lived here — Earmon Pickett and Oscar Waugh. They spent 8 years living with each other.
That morning of January 24, 2011 there was no answer at the door when Jacobs and Pickett’s other sister, Olivia Pickett, went back to the Pike Road home on Community Road.
“When I couldn’t open the door with my key, I took the screw driver that was on the shelf there. And I… had to force the door open,” Said Jacobs.
And that’s when the two sisters discovered what they had never imagined.
“My brother was on his knees at the end of the bed. Oscar was lying in the dining room floor on his face. And it was just unbelievable,” Said Jacobs.
Minutes later, the home was wrapped in caution tape and a swarm of officers investigating what appeared to be a home invasion, a robbery and an execution-style double-murder. Today there are still blood stains from that gruesome day in 2011.
“I… I can’t describe the feeling,” Said Olivia Pickett as she showed us the bloodstains. Olivia is another sister of Earmon Pickett. “It bother’s me so much. It’s like it’s happening all over again. Just like… just like the first day. It’s hard to be in this room, in this house. It’s hard to talk about right now… And I’m trying so hard.”
It was still difficult for Pickett. She had to walk out of the home. We followed her to the patio as tears rolled down her face.
“I tried so hard to be strong,” cried Olivia. “But it still hurts. It hurts.”
Years later, few details have emerged from the case.
“This is absolutely ridiculous because you have two defenseless men that were good friends, good friends with each other who were living peacefully with each other… who were living peacefully here at this residence,” Said Montgomery County District Attorney, Daryl Bailey, as we walked outside the home. “And you got someone or some people who come in here and execute them. For what? For a little bit of property?”
Leaving these sisters with old mail to look for any clues, pictures and questions as to who killed their loved-ones.
“Never begged in my life for anything as I have for someone to be put to justice for killing our brothers,” Said Irene Jacobs.
“There is somebody out there who knows what happened. And I just pray that they will come forward and say something,” Said Olivia Pickett.
Alabama News Network reached out to the Waugh family, but our calls were never returned. The Pickett’s say they’ve also tried to reach out to them. They say their calls weren’t returned either.
Here’s what authorities are working with right now:
- The sisters say they last spoke to Pickett around 6:30 p.m. on January 23, 2011.They discovered their bodies around 7 a.m. January 24, 2011.
- Murders happened on Community Road (in Pike Road).
If you have any information on Pickett’s and Waugh’s murder, you’re asked to call Crimestoppers at 215-STOP or the district attorney’s office at 832-7196.
