Ridgecrest Neighborhood Works To Clean Up

This Saturday the Ridgecrest area neighborhood association held their last cleanup day.Â
Â
They’ve been holding them since August and while they’ve seen progress they say they are hoping the city will continue to help.
Â
About a dozen residents spent Saturday picking up trash and cutting down weeds and grass. The neighborhood association organized the cleanup days.Â
Â
They’ve been working with the city’s BONDS program, that’s a group that helps guide neighborhood associations, providing them with resources.Â
Â
But residents want more help tearing down dilapidated buildings. One of the city councilman for the area was out there helping the cleanup efforts, but says the city cant do it alone.Â
Â
David Burkette, Montgomery City Council, District 4 said, “Everybody wants to get rid of the weeds, everybody wants to get rid of the terrible lawn that they have and just sending a message out to every neighborhood there is that we can on our own destiny clean up by ourselves instead of relying on the city to do every little thing which is impossible.”
Â
Councilman David Burkette and Arch Lee each matched $500 contributions to the neighborhood associations cleanup efforts.Â
Â
Councilman Arch Lee had surgery so he could not help out. Their districts split the cleanup area.Â
