This video is no longer available.

With fall officially here, that means one thing for one South Alabama business.
Getting ready for pecan season and the thousands of visitors lining up to get some tasty treats.

Robert Hunter is a Plant Manager at the Priester’s Pecan Plant in Fort Deposit. He’s getting his hands dirty to prepare for his 45th season of shelling pecans. It may be quiet at the plant right now, but come Tuesday

These machines at Priester’s Pecan Plant will be up and running, shelling over 600 pecans a minute.

The plant gets their pecans mainly from Georgia and South Alabama. They’ll do everything from processing, grading, to roasting. Once the pecans leave the plant they’re sent to the Priesters Pecan Store, where they’ll make pecan pies, cakes,  cookies, and other sweets

“At this location we make all the candy. All the pecan brittle and the fiddlesticks and all the sugar pecans you see. We package those into bags to sell for retail and we also sell them for other companies to use as well.” Says Ellen Burkett, co-owner of Priester’s Pecans.

The store gets thousands of visitors and travelers a day,  ranging from Texas to Florida.

Priesters has between 20 and 25 different types of pecans . If you’re not sure which ones you’ll like don’t panic, you can actually come to the store and try a free sample.
