Montgomery Learning from Last Weeks Ebola Scare

City leaders in Montgomery are learning from last week’s Ebola scare. Even though it ended up being a false alarm, city leaders say they’ve learned something from what happened.

The Montgomery Eye Physicians clinic  off Zelda road  was the center of attention Friday after an 83-year-old woman said she’d experienced Ebola symptoms. Then told medics her son had just returned from Nigeria. She was cleared of the disease but city leaders say this was a real life situation that has helped prepare for the worst. Mayor Todd Strange says the biggest lesson he learned was the need for equipment to isolate the patient.

“First responders need to have this isolation bubble if you will, to be able to transport. Not only for Ebola , but any other infectious disease that we have to move people from one point to another” says Mayor Todd Strange.

“the next thing we’re going to want to address is with hospitals trying to identify what do we need  to have a few centers of excelennce so that if we have a patient, once they are diagnosed. Do we need to move them?” says Don Williams.

Friday, Mayor Strange is meeting with all the agencies that responded to this eye clinic last week.
During that meeting they will decide what steps the city will take to ensure the city is safe.
