Mixed Reactions to College Football Playoff Rankings

The College Football Playoff Committee has released its top teams for the playoff. Auburn was in the top 4 along with Mississippi State, FSU, and Ole Miss. But not everyone is satisfied with the rankings.

It’s the countdown to the national championship and with a Top 4 ranking, Auburn fans we talk to say they believe the committee got it right.

“I think we gotta good chance this year, got a good team. They’re young, strongminded, I think we’re gonna get it,” said Auburn fan Adrain Lawhorn.

Alabama wasn’t in the Top 4. But that’s okay for some fans.

“You gotta look at whose gotta play who ’cause Ole Miss gotta play MS State, Auburn has to play Ole Miss. Somebody gotta lose, and somebody gotta win. All Alabama has to do is roll tide,” said Bama fan Willy Fletcher.

The playoff committee is made up of 12 members of different backgrounds.
They will look at things like strength of schedule, head-to-head competition and championships won to help them decide which teams get ranked the highest.

Sports analyst John Longshore says he’s not convinced this system is better than the BCS system.

“I’m a little suspect of the committee and how it goes about picking these games. Will they get help from outside sources? Do they really watch all the teams that play?” said Longshore.

Longshore says it is still early, and there is still a lot of football to play.

“In Auburn and Alabama’s case, it’s right there in front of them. If these teams continue to win, they’re gonna be in,” said Longshore.

Auburn will play Ole Miss this weekend. Alabama will be off.
