Voter with Gun Arrested in Shelby County

PELHAM, Ala. (AP) – A member of the BamaCarry gun rights group was arrested when he showed up at a Shelby County polling place with a gun visible.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office reported that Robert Kennedy Jr. was charged with a voting violation Tuesday morning at the First Baptist Church annex building in Pelham.

Deputies turned Kennedy away from the same polling place when he arrived with a gun for the June primary election. He was allowed to vote with a gun in the July runoff.

But before Tuesday’s general election, Sheriff Chris Curry announced that every polling place in the county would have a “no firearms” sign at the entrance at the request of the property owners. Curry said the goal was to allow people to vote in an influence-free environment.
