Golden Apple Award: Sametta Fluker

This video is no longer available.

This week’s Golden Apple Award takes us to Montgomery County Public Schools, and to Fitzgerald Elementary School. That’s where first graders spend their days with a teacher who they say makes learning fun.

Sametta Fluker has been teaching first grade at Fitzpatrick Elementary for three years, but she’s been a teacher for sixteen years. She says it’s the reward of seeing children learn that makes her love the classroom.

“I try to come in every day with a smile on my face and to make them excited about learning,” says Fluker.

She’s not only a teacher–she’s a leader. she serves as one of the school’s grade level chairs, sharing and collaborating with other teachers. Fluker says as long as there are children to teach, she knows she’ll be at home in the classroom.
