Hayneville Mayor Steps Down After Winning State House Seat

From the West Alabama Newsroom– The outcome of the race for the Alabama State House District 69 seat has left a hole in the city government of Hayneville because the person leading the city will now take on a new role.
Kelvin Lawrence is now headed to the state house after spending the last two years as the mayor of Hayneville.
Since he can’t hold both offices — that leaves the town without a permanent leader in place.
Lawrence says city councilman David Daniel will act as mayor until a permanent replacement is chosen to fill the office.
“Midnight the day after the election I officially assumed the position of state representative,” said Lawrence. “I look forward to it and I’m really excited and ready to get to work.”
House District 69 includes all of Lowndes and Wilcox counties — and portions of Autauga and Montgomery counties.
