Should Auburn’s Nick Marshall be in Heisman Talk?

Nick Marshall led the Auburn Tigers to the National Championship game last year and has seven victories under his beltĀ  this season so far as quarterback. Is that enough for him to be considered a Heisman Trophy candidate? Some fans certainly think so.

Should Nick Marshall’s name come up when talking about Heisman Trophy candidates? Marshall was named Auburn’s starting quarterback in 2013 and has seen a fair amount of success on the field, leading the Tigers to both a SEC Championship and a National Championship game. And this season, the tigers have just one loss under him so far.

“He does a dang good job like everybody else in the game.” says fan Thaddeus McGruder. “Just like everybody else in every other conference. He deserves a shot.”

Of course, some Auburn fans want Marshall to be considered.

“Nick runs, he throws, he does what he has to do to help the team win,” says Frances McGruder. “So why not? The only reason why Dak Prescott beat him is because they just have a little bit of an edge on us at that particular time.”

Mississippi State’s Dak Prescott IS in the Heisman Trophy race and Frances says the Marshall should be as well, saying he’s similar to Cam Newton.

“Cam wasn’t that great of a passer either but he was still a darn good quarterback and his team won,” she says. “Now when you take your team to SEC championships and national championships, whether you won or not, you got there and that says a lot.”

“Not quite Cam, he’s close though,” says Auburn fan Lorenzo Williams.

Other fans say Marshall isn’t as good as Cam but should still be considered nonetheless.

“He’s much better than he was last year,” says Andre Williams. “I’ll give him that.”
