Blair’s Victory During Loss

The Pike County Revenue Commissioner is heading into his seventh term. But would should have been a victorious time, was somewhat overshadowed by tragic loss.

You can call Curtis Blair a veteran at being sworn in. And from 1979 to now, his wife Elaine’s been by his side for 42 years.

Blair said, “she supported me one hundred percent. sure did. “

But this time, he will start a new term without her by his side. Elaine’s battle with cancer ended just a few days before the election. “My lifeline, she was with me all the way till the end,” he said.

He chose to forgo the excitement at the courthouse on election night. But he says he’s humbled by the community’s support.

“I want to thank the people of Pike County for supporting me and sticking with me during this difficult time. I will be there for you when you need me,” he said.

He’s already back to work as the county’s revenue commissioner, putting the election in the past.  “I know this party business republican and democrat’s been a big thing but looky here, we don’t ask anyone who they are when they walk into our office.”

It’s a mission he says he’s had for more than thirty years- “serving the people in an honest and efficient and unbiased manner,” a mission he hopes to continue through his next term.

Blair was first elected back in 79 as the tax collector. That position was then combined with the tax assessor to form the revenue commissioner in 1996. He’s one of the longest running elected officials in the state.
