Building a playground in a day may sound like an impossible job–but that’s exactly what hundreds of Montgomery volunteers teamed up with a national charity, ESPN, and Disney to do.

On Friday, more than 300 people gathered to build the playground at Chisolm Boys and Girls Club. Playground building non-profit “Kaboom!” coordinated the project. ESPN and Disney also provided money and volunteers.

Hands on River Region volunteers, local university students, and civic group members got to work early Friday morning.

Boys and Girls Club officials say this playground would not be possible without the team effort.

“This is about $100,000 worth of work on this playground and volunteers just take the place of that, and that will just put a dent in our budget and make it possible for us to spend the money on the children,” said Rick Jackson, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of the River Region.

About 150 children visit the Boys and Girls Club in the Chisolm community every day during the summer.

All community kids will have access to the new playground.
