Man’s Vision To Give Back Streches a Decade
Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away. While some families are busy planning their menus for the big meal, others are just trying to find a way to put food on the table. Volunteers at the New Life Baptist Church put together and distributed 50 Thanksgiving meal boxes Saturday. Jay Mayes is the man behind the mission. He’s been giving back to the community this time every year for the past decade, with no recognition. A family member’s watched Jay do this and called Alabama News Network.He does receive some donations, but the remainder of the money for the food comes out of pocket. Jay Mayes, Deacon New Life Baptist Church said, “Growing up in a single parent home, my momma struggled to raise me and my sister. Just watching her work so hard and do so much, I had friends around that we had to bond together and help one another so it just continued on.” This isn’t the only time of the year the New Life Baptist Church is active in the community. They have outreach programs throughout the year.
