Clean Up and Repairs Underway after Train Derailment in Wilcox Co.

From the West Alabama Newsroom–  Work crews continue to clean up the wreckage and repair the tracks after a train derailment in Wilcox County.

Norfolk Southern officials say two locomotives — and the first 14 cars of a 77 car train derailed at around nine last night. They say the train was carrying lumber products.

The train derailed near County Road 29 and Highway 5 — in the Alberta community of Wilcox County.

Laura Lee Jones lives close to where it happened.

“I was dozing off to sleep and I heard the sound and I got up,” she said. “It sound like it hit something.”

Norfolk Southern officials say two members of the train’s crew were treated and released at a local hospital.

They say the train had a total of 77 cars.
