From the West Alabama Newsroom–  The annual Christmas on the River in Demopolis is a little more than two weeks away and the community is hard at work putting the final pieces in place for their annual holiday tradition.

Volunteers are finishing up the floats for the street parade and the river parade.

The four-day event also features historic tours, arts and crafts, a barbeque cook-off, fireworks and more.

Diane Brooker is the COTR chairperson for this year’s event.

Brooker says the annual Christmas festival is a source of pride for the city. She says the entire community pitches in each year to help make it happen.

“There’re so many people that come and help work on all the floats because there’s no way one person or just a committee could make this happen, said Brooker. “The sponsorships come from the businesses in town, so that’s the money that funds it, so its an entire community event.”

Christmas on the River kicks off December 3rd and runs through December 6th.
