Prattville Student Filing Criminal Complaint Against Phenix City Officer After Maced in the Face

This video is no longer available.

A Prattville High School student will be filing a criminal complaint against a Phenix City Police officer. The student says the officer used excessive force against him during a football game and maced him in the face. Prattville High School Senior, Cameron Rader, says he believes his civil rights have been violated. Alabama News Network received video shot by another student on their cellphone — Rader says he and his peers asked for permission from Prattville High School faculty members who were with them if they could get closer to the railings. They were winning the game against Central Phenix City High School at that moment. Meanwhile, Rader says a Phenix City officer was watching him. He says the officer asked him to back off, then pushed him, then sprayed him with mace. The 17-year-old was then taken away from the field by the officer and then asked to leave, but what’s unclear is what happened or exactly what was said prior to us seeing the incident on video. But again, he believes the officer used excessive force to handle the situation. Now he and his attorney say they’ll be filing a criminal complaint against the officer on the alleged assault with the use of pepper spray. His attorney says they’ve reached out to the Alabama Bureau of Investigations to begin a full investigation on this. He hopes to have an answer by tomorrow. We’ve reached out to the Phenix city police department but so far, our calls haven’t been returned.
