Marengo Academy in Linden Reaches State Championship Game
From the West Alabama Newsroom– The Marengo Academy football team is trying to win back to back state championships — but they’ll have to beat the defending champ to do it.
Marengo Academy in Linden won the AISA Class A state football championship last year. The Longhorns moved up to AA this season and fought their way back to the title game. But to win back to back championships — they’ll have to beat Edgewood Academy — the 5-time defending 2-A champion.
“We’re going to try to do whatever it takes to win. Our guys are going to play hard,” said head coach Robby James.
The title game kicks off at noon Friday in Troy.
“We’re behind them all the way,” said Longhorn fan Tammy Burns. “We’re very excited that they’re going to state and we’re all going to Troy, the whole town almost, just to support them.”
