Pastors Rally Against Same Sex Marriage

Pastors from across the state and the country were in Montgomery today protesting same sex marriage.

They say Alabamians don’t want to be forced to allow the practice in our state.

Pastors spoke for hours today about biblical and historic reasons they oppose same-sex marriage.

But there are groups in the state who don’t agree with them at all.

More and more states are recognizing same sex marriage across the country.

Just this week, the US supreme court paved the way for South Carolina to become the 35th state to allow gay marriage.

That has these Pastor Franklin Raddish worried about Alabama.

“We see a tremendous push by a very small minority, about 3 percent of sodomites and their groups. To push same sex marriage which we are adamantly against,” said Raddish.

In 2006, Alabama voted overwhelmingly to ban same sex marriage.

Pastor Raddish doesn’t want federal judges to override the 81 percent of voters who opposed it.

“If we allow that to happen, if we don’t stand up and say no way this is going to happen here, we’re not going to allow that. Then in essence, we are violating the integrity of the ballot box, of you and I and of people in Alabama,” said Raddish.

But not everyone wants things to stay the same here.

In April, The human rights campaign launched an effort to support same sex marriage in the south.

Leaders also say they want to involve the religious community in bringing change.

“Well first and foremost this campaign is about changing hearts and minds. And you change hearts and minds by having conversations within the faith and religious communities, within our institutions, universities, hospitals, as well as the workplace,” said Hubert Tate with the HRC.
