Troy Veterans Center Future In Hands of Courts

The owner of the Troy Veterans Center, shut down by the state fire marshal, continues his fight to reopen. And now it’s in the courts’ hands.
Clarence Scott went before the board of adjustments for the past three months for approval to begin the process of reopening the center. He says it’s a short-term group home.
The state fire marshal shut the place down in the summer after an inspection revealed code violations.
Last months’ meeting the board was missing a few members, so they had to wait on speaking with the city attorney about denying his request.
At the meeting tonight, the board voted to throw out that vote and rehear Scott’s proposal.
But his attorney, Lewis Gillis said they’d already been notified that Scott’s request was denied. And that he already filed an appeal in circuit court.
Gillis did not think the board had the authority to overturn their previous denial. The board decided to let the matter be resolved in court.
