Hartwell on Search for Troy Head Football Coach

Saturday will mark the end of an era in Troy. After 24 seasons, longtime head coach Larry Blakeney will coach his final game.
Alabama News Network sat down with Athletic Director John Hartwell to get the latest on the search for Blakeney’s replacement.
Hartwell says they’ve heard from more than one hundred candidates, spanning from people in the NFL all the way down to high school coaches.
He hoped to name a new head coach by December 1st-next Monday, and he says they may meet that deadline.
Hartwell says they’ve narrowed down those candidates to just a couple that meet all of their qualifications.
“Recruiting guru, somebody who brings accountability and discipline to the program, could fit in not just in Troy athletics and Troy University but our community and the surrounding area,” Hartwell said.
Blakeney will lead the Trojans onto the field one final time this Saturday at 11 a.m. Hartwell says Blakeney’s steered away from being a part of the search and has been focusing on leading his team.
