Effort to Expand Selma Interpretive Center Underway in Selma

From the West Alabama Newsroom– The city of Selma continues to make progress towards plans to expand and improve the Selma Interpretive Center.
Selma Planning and Development Director James Benderson is guiding the city’s effort to make the interpretive center bigger and better.
Benderson says the city plans to expand the space by renovating the second and third floors of the building. He says the project plans include more exhibits — meeting and office space — and an elevator.
“its a major renovation. it’s a historic building,” said Benderson. “When you renovate a historic building you have to do it a certain way and make sure it keeps the historical integrity of the property.”
He says the project could take up to two years and about two million dollars to finish.
