12 Sentenced for Ala. Unemployment Claim Fraud

The Alabama Department of Labor says a dozen people have pleaded guilty in recent months to defrauding the state unemployment insurance benefits program.
Al.com reports that the defendants were charged with violating the Alabama Unemployment Compensation Law because they lied on benefit claims.
They were sentenced in September, October and November and must pay restitution totaling $42,277. Each defendant must repay the entire amount he or received through false claims.
All of them were also sentenced to serve time in prison, though most of the prison terms were suspended pending restitution payment and good behavior.
