City of Prattville Holds Annual Christmas Parade

The City of Prattville held it’s Christmas parade last night for hundreds of spectators. The parade is growing with each year and has become a favorite holiday tradition.

Plenty of smiles out here as Prattville hosted one of its biggest events of the year, the much anticipated Christmas parade

The community came out in droves to witness downtown Prattville transform into somewhat of a North Pole. Christmas lights donned the buildings and holiday décor lined the streets, all to kick off the countdown to Christmas.

“I’ve been in Prattville, what three years?” says resident Cece Farley. “So this is my first experience here.”

The annual Chrismas parade draws hundreds of people out from Prattville and the surrounding cities. Prattville Mayor Bill Gillespie says the event gets bigger every year.

“It’s for not only the young but the young at heart,” he says. “So I mean, it just crosses over so many generations and you know, it’s just a part of this community like it is nationwide.”

Temperatures around 60 degrees may have also played a part in bringing more spectators out.

“It’s perfect because if it was cold I would not have been out here period,” Farley says.

Classic cars, marching bands, dancers, and countless themed floats cruised the streets. Holley Purcifull and Adam Hunt represent Way Off Broadway Threatre’s float.

“Our float has a Christmas tree and we are ugly sweater Christmas party,” Purcifull explains.

“She wrapped me with some tinsel and we threw some lights on it and I’m a Christmas tree,” Hunt says of his attire for the evening.

With the parade being a draw for families, kids tell us they look forward to it each year.

“I’m really excited to see the parade and I’m just really excited,” says eight-year-old Gabby.

Glynwood Park Dental Care won first prize in the Christmas Parade float contest.  Their theme was “All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth.”
