Plan Would Convert Old Golf Course into Wal-Mart

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – A developer is aiming to turn part of a closed golf course in Montgomery into a new Wal-Mart.
The Montgomery Advertiser reports that the $10 million project would convert the former home of Bonnie Crest Country Club into land for a new Wal-Mart on Federal Drive.
The Montgomery City Council plans a public hearing on the proposal Tuesday evening.
Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange said the city has scheduled a separate meeting with developers to learn more.
Representatives from neighborhood and business groups said they plan to oppose the project at Tuesday’s meeting.
