Gov. Bentley Lighting State’s Christmas Tree

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – The official state Christmas tree is scheduled for lighting Friday on the steps of the Alabama Capitol.
Gov. Robert Bentley will lead the ceremony that begins at 5:45 p.m.
The state’s official Christmas tree this year is a 38-foot eastern red cedar grown in Bullock County. It is decorated with approximately forty thousand LED lights.
The theme of this year’s ceremony is, “Every light a prayer for peace.”
Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange and Adjutant General Perry Smith of the Alabama National Guard will offer a special tribute to the troops.
