Could Montgomery Soon be Smoke-Free

Montgomery could soon be a smoke-free city. That’s if a proposed no-smoking ordinance is approved by the city council.

For weeks, the Montgomery City council has tossed around the idea of changing the city’s smoking ordinance.

Some Montgomery residents no longer want smoking in the city’s restaurants or bars. City council members are considering a ban that would ban that altogether.

They say second hand smoke in bars and restaurants is harmful for everyone. Opponents, including some business owners, say government should not be telling them how to run their restaurants.

They say a no-smoking ordinance would only hurt them.

City leaders will vote tomorrow on the ordinance.
