Rise In Thefts Around Holidays

It’s home for the holidays for thousands of college students, and others heading out of town in the coming weeks.Â
Â
That’s something thieves prey on this time of year.  Officials say there are about 600 thefts in a year in Troy. And that number usually grows around the holidays and university breaks.Â
Â
Besides the usual lock your doors and don’t leave valuables in your car, police say there are other ways to be proactive.Â
Â
Troy University Police Chief John McCall said, “If you are going to leave something here, it’s just too big you can’t take it home, make sure you take some pictures of it before you leave and get the serial numbers. And all of the information off those items and make a list of what you are leaving in your apartment.”
Â
Police also urge anyone to call 911 if they see anything suspicious.Â
