Finalist Withdraws from Elmore Co. Superintendent Search

Three finalists were in the running to take over for Elmore County School Superintendent, Dr. Jeff Langham, who’s leaving for a position with the state board of education. Now one of those finalists have dropped out of the race. The three finalists were chosen by the Alabama Association of School Boards after they conducted a survey on what employees and the community are looking for in their next superintendent. Wednesday, candidate Robert Kyle McCartney dropped out of the race. Robert Kyle McCartney is the principal for Oxford High school for the last three years, near Anniston Alabama. He’s spent two years as Assistant Principal of Hoover High School. McCartney has also served as Deputy Director for the Alabama Institute for the deaf and blind in Talladega. Two candidates are still in the running for the position. Candidate, Richard Dennis, is currently Prattville High School’s principal. He has 22 years of experience in the Elmore County School system. Dennis was named Principal of the Year in 2011 while at Wetumpka High School. Dr. Andre Harrison has worked in the Elmore County School system for 22 years. He’s served the last two as deputy superintendent. Harrison has also served as interim superintendent while Dr. Langham was on medical leave. Board interviews will take place Thursday, December 18 at 1 pm at the Elmore county school board. The public is invited to attend. The board expects those interviews to last for at least two hours each. Alabama News Network will be there for those interviews. Follow us on twitter for real-time updates @AlNewsNet .
