Governor Bentley Reflects On 2014

We’ll be seeing Governor Robert Bentley for another four years after his landslide victory this November.

But he’s not just proud of winning the election this year.

“The things that I’m proudest of are the things I’ve put in place as far as organizational structure for job creation. And I think every time we announce a large company coming to alabama, it just shows the continuation of what we’ve put in place,” said Governor Bentley.

The state’s unemployment rate is down to 6 percent, which is lower than we were this time last year.

Bentley won’t be able to run for governor again after this term, but he still has a lot that he wants to accomplish, especially with Alabama’s education.

“I think that before I finish my next four years I want every school system, every child in Alabama to have the opportunity to go to a first class prek program. Because that will change their lives in 15 years.”

The state has had to make a lot of budget cuts, and 2015 looks like more of the same. Bentley has said the budgets could be short almost 700 million dollars. While it’s been tough, Bentley is proud of the work he’s done to make government more efficient.

“We have been able to cut the size of the state government by 12.5%. There’s not state in the country that’s done that. We’ve done it with efficiencies, we’ve done it by reorganization. We’ve done it by saving 1.2 billion dollars for the people of the state. These are major things.”
